Fire Doors

Tekno Yangin supplies Asturmadi Doors steel fire doors in Turkey. This page summarises the certificates, resistance classes and door types you need to know when selecting a fire door. Always verify the regulation and fire brigade requirements that apply to your project.

Certificates

Certificates differ by door model. The fire door selector shows which standard each model meets. Some ranges (such as the Inox and UL ranges) are certified to both standards.

What does the EI class mean?

In Europe a fire door set is tested to EN 1634-1 and classified to EN 13501-2. The class is written with the letters EI and minutes, for example EI 60. E is integrity (no passage of flame and hot gases) and I is insulation (the unexposed face stays below a temperature limit). In North America doors are tested to UL 10B and the rating is given in minutes (UL 90, 120, 180).

Door types

Selection notes

  1. Define the resistance you need: fire regulations, the partition wall and the use class set it.
  2. Choose the standard: EN 1634-1 (EI) for European projects, UL 10B where North American or UL ratings are required.
  3. Define size and number of leaves: single or double leaf. The clear passage width and height set the structural opening.
  4. Add special needs: acoustic, grille, stainless, hygienic or double-action.
  5. Choose hardware: handle, lock, hinges and door closer are part of the certified system. Uncertified hardware can void the class.

For CE marking in Europe the product standard is EN 16034. Verify its current status in the relevant edition.

FM Approved fire doors (Roper Doors)

FM Approvals is a separate approval scheme. The Asturmadi certificates do not include FM approval. For projects that require FM Approval we can offer doors from Puertas Roper S.L. (Roper Doors) of Spain.

According to the FM Approvals listing (approval standard FM 4100 - Fire Door Assemblies, hollow metal doors):

Item Value
Manufacturer Puertas Roper S.L., Revilla de Camargo, Spain
Models 63264 (yellow, right hand) and 63234 (blue, left hand)
Certification type FM Approved
Maximum hourly rating 3 hours
Maximum size (single swing) 1.22 x 2.21 m
Frame FM Approved fixed frame, for use in concrete or masonry walls at least 200 mm thick

In the Roper catalogue, single and double swing fire doors are tested to EN 1634-1 in classes EI 60, EI 90 and EI 120 (with the C5 durability class). The catalogue states FM approval for the swing door range. It does not state FM approval for the sliding, vertical sliding or access panel products. Listings change over time, so verify the current status in the FM Approvals guide.

If you need an FM Approved door, send the opening sizes and the required rating through contact. An FM Approved door must be used with FM Approved frames, hardware and detection devices. The rating of an assembly equals the lowest rating of any component.

Roper Doors range

Ask for the Roper catalogue for size ranges and details. The classes follow the 2020 edition of the catalogue.

Installation and maintenance

The door must be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions and the tested wall type. The leaf must self-close, gaps and seals must stay intact and no holes or cuts may be made in the door. Fire doors should be inspected regularly.
